Draping

  • The way in which material falls or hangs when placed on a dress form.
  • To arrange or let fall in loose folds.
  • Draping has been popular all throughout history since it was discovered in Grecian times.
Madame Gres was a famous designer who became prevalent in the 1930's. She made beautiful dresses by draping fabric on a dress form. She then pleated it or continued to drape it around the body to create the garment. These ideas have been carried through to contemporary fashion.
