Bias Cut

  • The fabric is cut diagonally across the grain.
  • It is used to create garments that follow the body curves closely.
  • It creates stretch to an otherwise stretch-less fabric.
  • Madeleine Vionnet a French designer in the 1920's introduced the bias cut to the world of fashion. She used it to create a sleek, flattering, body-skimming look to women's clothing, in order to accentuate the human form.
