Deconstructing

  • Deconstructing is the dismantling of clothes to strip away the aesthetic illusion associated with them.
  • It reveals the forms of construction behind the garment.
  • It began in the '70s where street style and grunge became popular.



Zandra Rhodes became a popular designer who used deconstructing the '70s. The pieces above were part of her collection in 1977. She ripped apart the fabric then held it together with safety pins.
